저는 에이드런 대표 김지민입니다. 저는 대학 시절, 저와 미술학원 입시를 함께했던 친구들과 함께 양육시설로의 봉사를 기획하며, 에이드런을 시작하게 되었습니다. 아이, 미술교육, 디자인이라는 세 가지 공통 취향을 토대로 프로젝트를 기획했고, 현재는 이 세 가지 요소가 서로를 필요로 하는 구조를 만들어, 아이들과 미술을 통해 이야기하는 시간을 함께하고, 여기서 나온 이야기를 패턴으로 만들어 디자인제품으로 전달하고 있습니다. adren artedu는 아이들과 양질의 대화를 나누며 이야기를 수집하고, adren design은 그 이야기를 패턴으로 풀어내, 양육시설 아이들에 대한 긍정적인 인식을 유도합니다.

남들과는 다른 길을 갈 용기가 없어서, 혹은 남들이 설정해놓은 기준치에 맞게 살기 위해서 자신이 진정으로 좋아하는 것이무엇인지 들여다보지 못하는 사람들이 있습니다. 가슴 뛰는 일을 선택했으면 한다고, 늘 저의 선택을 믿어주고 응원해주는가족들 덕분에 대학 진학에 있어서 ‘순수 미술’을 선택할 수 있었고, 더 나아가 미술을 활용한 현재의 에이드런이라는소셜벤처로까지 이어질 수 있었습니다. 스스로 설계한 삶을 옳다고 믿고 살아가는 타 소셜벤처가들의 ‘이야기’와 가치관은 현재의 저에게도 꾸준히 긍정적 영향을 주고 있습니다. 좋아하는 일을 하며 기쁘게 살아가고 싶습니다.

ADREN / Ji Min, Kim

1) Can you briefly introduce yourself (name, birth place, the place you have lived, major interests, and etc.)? I am Kim Ji Min, CEO of adren. I started my company when I was an university student. At that time me and my friends had a project to help orphans in orphanages. We found three factors that are children, art education and design as our common ground, now we design and make some goods with these factors. We continue to talk with many children and collect stories of them. We make clothes from their stories, and we make people to change their thought and prejudice about orphans.

2)What is the ‘story’ that influenced(inspired) you the most in your life? There are people who has not courage to choose one’s own way and who drive themselves to chase after other people’s thinking. Those people cannot know who they really are and what they really like. I could choose to study fine art in university with my encouraging family who always want me to choose something that are wonder. Now I’m using my experiences to running my company adren as social-venture company. The story of other people who also are running social-venture company affect me in positive way. I want to do the thing that I like and makes my life happy

신씨에 지혜롭고 곱게 자라라고 지연 이라는 이름을 받았습니다! 무려 5살 위의 언니가 지어줬지요. 상계동에서 태어났고이사를 많이 해서 딱히 어디서 살았다고 하기는 뭐하지만 최근 거의 10년 동안 판교에 거주하고 있었습니다. 관심사는 반려에서 야생까지의 모든 동물을 좋아하구요, 요즘은 웹툰을 아주 좋아합니다. 무관심사는 연애…? 많이 해보진 않았지만 왜인지 질려 있는 상태입니다. 하지만 소개팅은 언제나 환영입니다.

큰 영향을 받았다.. 라기에는 너무 최근에 들은 이야기지만 흥미로워서 써봅니다. 요즘에 죽은 동물의 털로 작품을 만드는일이 늘어나서 문득 ‘이 털의 주인공은 주인이 이런 제품을 만드는 것을 좋아할까?’ 싶었어요.근데 제품 제작 차 아카데미에 오신분의 형제 중에 에니멀커뮤니케이터(동물과 대화하는 사람)분이 계셨어요. 실제로 제품제작에 관해서 직접 죽은 아이에게 물어봤다네요. 근데 감정은 3차원적인 것이라 영체가 되어버린 애들에게는 감정이랄 것이 존재하지 않아서 그 아이는 ‘할일이나 하세요~’라는 식으로 말했다네요 ••• 믿거나 말거나지만요~

지금의 멍냥공방은 보호소에서 피부병 예방을 위해 빗질을 해주다가 ‘털이 돈이면 보호소에게 많은 도움이 될 텐데’하며만들어진 브랜드에요. 동물을 좋아해서 보호소에 봉사도 오래 다니고 학과도 동물관련 학과 로 왔는데, 막상 세상에 나와 보니 실제로 세상이 동물을 다루는 시각과 방식이 매우 난폭하다는 것을 크게 느꼈어요. 동물에 대해 알지 못해서 벌어지는 보이지 않는 학대 혹은 구조적인 학대를 막기 위해 앞으로는 생명존중교육사업까지 하고 싶답니다.

MNGB / Ji Yeon,Shin

1) Can you briefly introduce yourself

My older sister gave me a name Shin Ji Yeon, which means pretty and wise. I was born in Sanggye-dong but it is hard to designate specific place as my hometown because my family moved place to place pretty much since I was child. I have many interest about any kind of animals, and Webtoons these days. I’m indifferent to romantic relationships, date or anything like that. I didn’t have relations much but in some way now I am. But blind date will be always OK. for me.

2) What is the ‘story’ that influenced(inspired) you the most in your life?

Well, It’s hard to say it’s a big influence, but I may say it because of the story is a kind of interesting. Lately I’ve been making crafts more with dead animal’s fur than usual, suddenly I thought that “What do animals think about this job? They might own their hair during their lifetime, now people want to make some crafts with their hair.” After that, anyhow, there was an animal communicator whose brother came to my office for making crafts. So when I told him about the thought I had that he asked to an animal about that. He came back and told me that the animal said “I don’t care, just do your job.” Believe or not, lollollol.

3) what is the motive or the reason you started the social venture you are running now? When I was combing an animal’s hair for prevent skin disease in a shelter for abandoned animals, I thought “If hairs are money that can be really helping for this shelter.” MNGB is established from this idea. I like animals very much so I studied about animals in my university and used to go to shelter for abandoned animals to help them. After my graduation I realized that people treat animals with too much violation. I want to get rid of a violence to animals with bad purpose or ignorance, also structural violence. To make this happen, I want to provide some educational program about expect for any kind of life.

아이따 대표 이유미입니다. 저는 패션디자인을 전공하여 오랫동안 디자이너로 활동하였고 작년 여름 탈북민의 이야기를담은 디자인 브랜드로 창업을 하게 되었습니다. 평일에는 일하고 주말에는 교회에서 대부분의 시간을 보내며 지극히 평범한삶을 살고 있는 대한민국 청년입니다.

가난, 구두닦이, 노숙 온갖 역경 속에서도 “배움을 얻어 나라와 가난한 농촌을 위해 일하리라!”라는 꿈을 품고, 당시 농업선진국으로 알려졌던 덴마크 국왕에게 주소도 없이 무작정 보내 편지 한 통으로 장학생으로 선발되어 우리나라에새마을운동을 도입시키셨던 류태영 박사님의 이야기를 좋아합니다.

미국 유학시절 한 탈북여성의 탈북 과정이 담긴 영상을 보게 되었습니다. 탈북여성들은 탈북 과정에서 인신매매, 성폭력,강제 혼인, 강제 북송에 위험에 처한다는 내용을 알게 되었으며 같은 여성으로 마음이 아팠고 이방인의 삶을 누구보다 잘알았기 때문에 제가 할 수 있는 일로 그들을 돕고 싶었습니다.

ITTA / Yu Mi, Lee

1) Can you briefly introduce yourself ?

I’m Lee Yu Mi, CEO of itta. I majored in fashion-design and worked as an fashion-designer for long time. I established my brand with the story of North Korean defector in last summer. I’m a very normal person with very normal life, who works in weekdays and spend time in a church weekend.

2) What is the ‘story’ that influenced(inspired) you the most in your life?

I like the story of Dr. Ryu Tae Young who overcome all of hardship he faced. He has a dream such as “I learn, and I work for my poor country and rural villages!” in despite all of his poverty. So he sent a letter to Danish King and he was chosen to become a scholarship student. He raised Saemaeul Movement in South Korea.

3) what is the motive or the reason you started the social venture you are running now?

When I was in America, I saw a film about a North Korean woman and story of her escaping from North Korea. I was informed that North Korean women who try to escape from their country are facing danger of human trafficking, sexual violence, a forced marriage and even forced repatriation. I wanted to help them because of I am a woman too and I understand a life of alien in foreign land. I wanted to help them with something I can

단순히 제품을 판매하여 이윤만을 추구하는 것이 아닌, 많은 사람들이 소비를 할 때에 새로운 경험을 안겨주길 바랐습니다.때문에 조금 어렵고 험난한 길이더라도 조금 어리석을지라도 우직하게 제가 꿈꿔왔던 것들을 하나씩 해나가고 있습니다. sillybilly의 와치피 프로젝트는 앞으로 평생토록 진행할 수많은 프로젝트들 중에 가장 처음의 것입니다.

한 강연 프로그램을 통해 ‘나는 도구다’라는 이야기를 접한 적 있습니다. 우리는 모두가 세상이 찾고, 세상에 쓸모 있는도구라는 이야기. 완벽하지는 못하지만 지금껏 저 또한 세상에 쓰임 받을 수 있는 도구로 살아오기 위해 부단히 노력했던 것 같습니다.

한차례 여행이 sillybilly를 시작할 수 있는 용기를 만들어 주었습니다. 짧지 않은 시간동안 개발도상국에 머물던 중 주변에읽을 수 있는 시계가 없다는 이유만으로 학교에 지각하는 아이들을 보게 되었고, ‘아이들 손목에 작은 시계 하나만 채워주면 지각을 덜 하지 않을까?’ 생각하고 시작한 프로젝트입니다.

1) Can you briefly introduce yourself ?

I want not only just profit from this business, but to make people to discover a new experience while they buy a stuff they want. Thus I do the thing I dreamed despite of any kind of hardship I should face. WatchP project is the first one of sillybilly’s and now sillybilly is planning to various projects.

2) What is the ‘story’ that influenced(inspired) you the most in your life?

Some lecture told me a story about “I am a tool”, which means we are all useful in somewhere, some ways. Of course I’m not a perfect man but I think I always tried to find my uses in this world.

3) what is the motive or the reason you started the social venture you are running now?

One trip encourages me to start this work. When I was staying in a developing country and I saw children who were used to late for a school. That was because they had no watch at all so they could not know exact time they have to check. I thought that “if they had a little wrist watch, they might go to school in time?” This is the beginning of my project.

고귀현/서울/서울/사회적 기업가로서의 길과 나

‘지구가 100명의 마을이라면’ 이라는 이야기였습니다. 그중 고등 교육(대학교)을 받은 사람이 100명 중 1명에 불과하다는 사실이 충격적으로 다가왔던 기억이 납니다. 그 말을 곱씹으며 나름의 해석을 한 결과는, 그렇다면 1명의 고등 교육 수료자는 최소한 100명의 사람들에게 자신이 배운 지식을 활용하여 그들의 삶에 기여해야할 의무가 있는 것이구나 라고 생각하게 되었습니다.

대학교때 배낭여행으로 남미를 여행했습니다. 여행은 무척이나 즐거운 시간과 경험이었지만 그 여행을 마치고 돌아와사진을 정리하는 과정에서 사진 구석 구석 마다 있던 원주민 여성들과 아이들의 길거리 구걸 또는 수공예품을 팔고 있는모습들이 보였고 뒤늦게 이들에 대한 안타까운 마음과 즐기기만 했던 여행자로서의 죄책감 같은 것이 들어 프로젝트를시작하게 되었습니다.

2) What is the ‘story’ that influenced(inspired) you the most in your life?

It was the story ‘If the World Were a Village’. The story told that it the world were a village with 100 people, there were only one person who had higher education. I shocked me. I thought and thought again, then I reached a conclusion of my own. “If so, the one who may have a chance to get a higher education has to contribute other’s life.”

3) what is the motive or the reason you started the social venture you are running now?

I traveled to South America when I was an university student. It was very fun, but when I came back to Korea and organized my picture from the trip, I found women and kids who were selling handcraft or begging for charity. I felt some guilty about my pleasure of traveler in their miserable life, so I started this project

곧 재개발되는 서울의 오래된 동네에 살고 있습니다. ‘작다’고 여겨지는 삶이 ‘크다’는 것을 발견하는 일에 관심이 있어, 사람들의 이야기를 듣고 기록하는 일을 만들어내고 있습니다. 2인 2묘 가구를 꾸리며 소박하고 건강한 삶을 지향합니다. 길냥이들을 돌보며 작은 생명들이 행복하게 살 수 있는 세상을 꿈꿉니다.

살면서 수없이 반복해 들어 온 우리 할머니의 ‘이야기하기’가 어느 순간 저의 귀를 일깨웠습니다. 할머니의 살아생전 옛날 이야기는 언제나 신세한탄으로 끝을 맺었습니다. 할머니는 해방 후 경찰서에서 일을 하셨는데 “기집애가 무엇 하러 사내들하고 돌아다니느냐”는 아버지 때문에 부산 출장 제의를 거절해야 했다시며 “내가 그때 갔으면 지금쯤 경찰 간부가 되어 있었을지도 몰라” 하곤 하셨습니다. 할머니의 말이 허풍인지, 정말 할머니가 경찰 간부가 될 수 있었는가는 중요하지 않습니다. 그 말 안에 들어있는 할머니의 마음과 아쉬움이 더 진실에 가깝습니다. 할머니는 그렇게 말함으로써 생을 위로받고 있었던 것입니다.

‘이야기할 권리’를 얻지 못했던 사람들이 스스로 말할 수 있게 할 수는 없을까? 하는 고민에서 일은 시작되었습니다. 주위 사람들의 이야기에 귀를 기울이면서 이야기하기의 힘을 느꼈습니다. 단지 몇 시간 동안 누군가의 삶 이야기가 귀 기울여지는 데에서도 변화가 일어날 수 있습니다. 주변부, 부차적인 것으로 취급된 사람들의 이야기, 특히 여성들의 목소리가 더 많은 곳으로 퍼져 나가고 ‘역사’로 쓰일 수 있게 되기를 꿈꾸며 ‘허스토리(herstory)’를 만들었습니다.이야기의 가치와 힘을 믿습니다. 사람들이 이야기를 통해 계속해서 살아갈 수 있는 힘을 얻을 수 있고, 서로를 이해하고 공존할 수 있는 가능성이 넓어진다는 것을 믿습니다.

HERSTORY / So Yeon, Ryu

1) Can you briefly introduce yourself ?

We live in an old village in Seoul, which will be redeveloped soon. As interested in finding that the life considered to be small is big, we are making a job of hearing and recording the people’s story. We aim for the simple and healthy life by making 2-person 2-tomb household. We dream of the world that small lives live happily as taking care of street cats.

2) What is the ‘story’ that influenced(inspired) you the most in your life?

My grandmother’s ‘storytelling’ I have heard many times in my life awakened my ear at some point. The old story she told me when she was alive always ended up in misfortune. She worked at a police station after the liberation; she had to refuse the suggestion of business trip to Busan because of her father who told “you must not work with guys because you are a woman”. She told “If I had gone on a business trip that time, I would have been a police executive now.” It does not matter whether her words are real. Her mind and sorrow contained in those words are closer to the truth. She was feeling comfort by telling so.

3) what is the motive or the reason you started the social venture you are running now?

The job began from the worry ‘how can I enable people who didn’t gain a right to tell a story to tell by themselves?’ I felt a power of storytelling as listening carefully to the story by people around me. A change could happen when I pay attention to the life story by someone for just a few hours. I made ‘herstory’ as wishing the people’s story treated as the incidental thing and the women’s voice spread to more places and was written as ‘history’. I believe in the value and power of the story. I believe people can gain the power to live continually through the story and the possibility to understand each other and coexist with others rises.

프로젝트 ㄱ의 공동대표 강태구입니다. 저는 인천에서 태어났지만 바로 경북 안동으로 이사를 떠나 무려 20년 간살았습니다. 이후 대구로 상경을 하여 지금까지 살고 있습니다. 저는 실시간으로 바뀌는 세상이 어떻게 돌아가는지에 관심이많습니다. 어려서부터 책 읽기보다는 신문 읽는 것을 더 좋아했습니다. 신문은 국제, 사회, 스포츠 면만 보았습니다. 이렇듯하루하루 생기는 일들에 대한 지속적인 관심은 제가 하는 일에 많은 영감을 주고 있습니다.

어머니께서는 제가 어릴 때부터 “철들지 말고 하고 싶은 것 해라” 라는 말씀을 자주 해주셨습니다. 인생의 모토이기도한 이 한 마디(이야기) 때문인지는 몰라도 저는 항상 쉬운 길 보다는 어려운 길을 선택하는 것 같습니다. 하지만 어려운 길을선택하여 극복해내는 과정을 즐기는 이상한 취향이 있어 나름 즐기는 편입니다.

프로젝트•의 첫 번째 프로젝트는 2015년 시작된 [세월호 기억하기 프로젝트]입니다. 저는 세월호 참사가 있었던 그 날,해군으로 복무 중이였는데요. 당시 국민 모두가 똑같은 마음이겠지만 제가 느낀 슬픔은 이루 말로 할 수 없었습니다. 더군다나 군인이라는 신분으로 인해 아무것도 할 수 없다는 안타까움은 저를 더 비참하게 만들었습니다. 그래서 2015년 초, 전역을하자마자 같은 과 동기, 후배들과 함께 세월호 참사 1주기를 기억하기 위한 [세월호 기억하기 프로젝트] 를 기획하게 됩니다.이런 활동을 진행하면 할수록, 우리가 바라 본 사회 속에는 소외된 기억들이 정말 많았습니다. 이러한 소외된 기억들을사회에 재분배시킬 수 있다면 더 좋은 사회를 만들 수 있지 않을까? 라는 생각을 하게 되어 2015년 정식 창업을 하고 현재,사회의 소외된 기억들을 위해 활동하고 있습니다.

PROJECT GIEOK / Tae Gu, Kang

1) Can you briefly introduce yourself ?

I am Kang Tae Gu, co-representative of project •. I was born in Incheon but moved to Andong very soon, and I lived in that city for 20 years. Now I’m living in Daegu. I have curiosity about how world changes. I liked newspapers more than books, and I only read international affairs, social issues and sports in my newspapers. Things that are happening everyday inspired me for doing my job.

2) What is the ‘story’ that influenced(inspired) you the most in your life?

My mother always told me “Don’t grow up and do what you want.” since I was child. It becomes my motto now. It influenced me much, I guess, I’ve been always choosing difficult way more than easy way. Because I’m enjoying to choose difficulty and overcome it.

3) what is the motive or the reason you started the social venture you are running now?

The first project of • is ‘Memorialize Ferry Sewol’. When the disaster happening, I was doing my military duty in ROK Navy. I think every people felt the same but I cannot express my feelings about the disaster. I cannot do anything because of my situation in military duty, and it make me more miserable. So when 2015, after my military duty, I planned ‘ Memorialize Ferry Sewol’ with my colleagues and friends. Doing this project, I realize that there are so memories forgotten, and I think people can make better society to take back these forgotten memories to our society. I’ve been doing this for forgotten memories in our society since 2015 I established official company.

소외된 기억들을 일상 속에 담아내는 브랜드, 프로젝트•의 공동대표이자 크리에이티브 디렉터로 일하고 있습니다.잊혀진 기억들이 저마다의 이야기를 지닌 매력적인 제품으로 탄생할 수 있도록 날마다 고민합니다. 대구에서 가장 아름다운동네인 앞산에서 나고 자란 토박이입니다. 계절마다 변하는 앞산의 색깔을 좋아하고, 세월이 묻어나는 것들을 사랑합니다.

날마다 빠르게 변해가는 동네를 보면 참 신기합니다. 오래된 주택들이 늘어선 조용하던 동네에 작은 카페들과 갤러리가생기기 시작하더니, 이제는 날마다 찾아오는 사람들로 북적입니다. 그런데 어느 순간부터 변해가는 것들 사이에서 그럼에도변하지 않는 것들이 보이기 시작했습니다. 여전히 가을이면 길을 뒤덮는 노란 은행잎과 여전히 고소한 냄새가 흘러나오는동네의 오래된 방앗간, 집 앞 슈퍼 주인 아저씨. 변해가는 것들이 없었더라면 알지 못했을 소중한 것들입니다. 매일 밤 집에돌아가는 길에 변해가는 동네를 보며, 앞산보다도 더 빠르게 변하고 있는 인생에서 내가 무엇을 남기고 있는지 떠올려 봅니다. 주변에 있는 수많은 소중한 것들을 기억하고, 좋은 변화를 만들어 가야지 다짐합니다.

모든 것은 변하고 상실되기 마련입니다. 너무나 당연한 순리이지만, 사라지고 잊혀지는 모든 것들이 안타깝게 느껴졌어요. 그런 생각을 갖고 있던 저에게 ‘기억’을 주제로 크라우드 펀딩을 이어오던 강태구 대표가 동업 제안을 했습니다. 잊혀져가는 것들에 대한 관심만으로는 쉽게 결정을 내릴 수가 없었습니다. 기억하는 것은 중요한 일인 만큼, 그것을 이야기하기 위해서 그 정도의 책임과 사명이 필요하더라고요. 그 무게에 대한 고민을 이어오던 어느 날 중요한 사실을 깨달았습니다. 그때까지 저는 기억의 중요성은 사라지는 것들에 대한 안타까움으로 부터 비롯된다고 생각해 왔어요. 하지만 기억은 붙잡는 것이 아니라, 애정 어린 관심을 각자의 마음에 담는 일에 가까웠습니다. 그러고 보니 영화 ‘코코’에서 ‘Remember me.’라는 말이 사랑한다는 말보다도 더 깊이 와 닿았던 이유도 알 듯 합니다. 사람들과 따뜻한 마음을 나누고 싶습니다. 잊혀져가는 모든 것들이 기억 안에서 온기를 잃지 않기를 바라며, 소외된 기억들을 위해 계속해서 움직이려 합니다.

PROJECT GIEOK / Ye won, Kim

1) Can you briefly introduce yourself ? I am co-representative and creative director of project • which brought forgotten memories back to one’s day life. I think about making charming crafts with forgotten memories everyday. I was born in Ap-mountain village where is the most beautiful city of Daegu. I like the color of Ap-mountain changing every season, and I love thing with times.

2) What is the ‘story’ that influenced(inspired) you the most in your life? It is wonder town gets change everyday so fast. There is quiet town where has line of old houses, oneday there are cafes and galleries in that town, now the town is crowded everyday with coming people. Somehow I can see things that are not changing within everything is changing. There still are ginkgo leaves which covered road when autumn comes, there still is old millhouse with spicy fragrance, there still is old guy who’s keeping his spot in marketplace. I may not recognizethese precious things without changing things. Seeing my town every night, I think about my life which is changing rapidly more than Ap-mountain. I think about the things I left. I promise myself I should remember precious things surrounding me, and I should make good change for me.

3) what is the motive or the reason you started the social venture you are running now? Everything is changing and forgotten. It is nature of the world, but I feel sad for those things. When I had been thinking about that matters, Kang Tae Gu who were making crowd funding proposed me for the partnership of project •. It was hard decision for me beside all my concerning about forgotten things. I thought memories are really matter so when someone try to talk about memory she/he should have responsibility and kind of sense of duty even. One day I realize something important. Memory is not coming from effort to catch something, it comes with love and care in one’s heart. That’s why I moved more in the word ‘remember me’ than ‘I love you’ in the movie Coco. I want to share warm heart with people. I want to make forgotten things warm in people’s memory. I’m gonna keep moving and working for the things forgotten

김단비 / 서울 / 의정부 / 주 관심사: 사회적기업, 경영, 책 / 무 관심사: TV 프로그램, k-pop

무엇보다도 다문화가정 아이들의 독서지도를 하면서 들었던 이야기가 가장 큰 영향을 준 것 같습니다. 다문화 가정 아이들이 제게 “우리 엄마아빠는 맨날 싸워요. 이혼한대요. 결혼식을 올리지 않아서 그런가 봐요”라면서 속내를 털어 놓는 모습에 울컥 했던 것 같습니다. 그 계기로 다문화 가정 무료 결혼식부터 지금의 비어스웨딩이 있게 되었습니다. 우리가 모든 문제를 해결할 수는 없지만, 하나의 실마리는 제공해줄 수 있는 것 같아 기쁘지요. 이 일은 계속해야겠다고 마음을 다지게 됩니다.

대학 입학 후부터 사회적기업에 관심이 많았고, 비즈니스 리더십단체 인액터스(Enactus)에 들어가 장애인 단체의 카페 운영을 도왔습니다. 교환학생으로 미국에 갔을 때도 탄자니아 여성을 돕는 사업에 2년 동안 참여했어요. 탄자니아 여성이 만든 바구니를 팔아 그들의 자립을 돕는 일로, 동아리에서 기업으로 발전했습니다. 한국에 돌아온 후에는 다문화가정 아이들에게 독서지도를 했습니다. 이 과정에서 다문화가정을 살펴보니 결혼식을 하지 않고 사는 경우가 대부분이었습니다. 아는 사람 하나 없는 타국에 와서 사는 신부들의 경우, 남들한테 인정받고 축하받는 자리인 결혼식을 하지 않았다는 데 대해 가슴의 응어리가 많았습니다. 그들의 자존감을 높여주기 위해서라도 결혼식이 필요하다고 생각했습니다. 2013년부터 다문화가정을 대상으로 무료 결혼식을 올려주다 지속가능한 사업모델을 찾아 스몰 웨딩을 시작했습니다. 스몰 웨딩 확산을 통해 결혼시장의 거품을 제거하면서 소외계층을 대상으로 앞으로도 꾸준히 무료 결혼식을 올려주는 일을 우리의 사명으로 생각합니다.

2) What is the ‘story’ that influenced(inspired) you the most in your life? The story that I heard when I was guiding a group book reading to a multicultural family’s kids affected me the most. I felt moved when I heard the kids say, “My mom and dad always argue and say that they are going to get divorced.” I think this is because when they get married, they had financial issues so they couldn’t afford to have a wedding ceremony. That experience made me want to make free weddings for multicultural families and run Beus Wedding. Nowadays, we give free weddings to the poor and offer small wedding services to brides and grooms. When I see their joy at their wedding ceremony, that gives me joy as well. When I see the bride and groom cry from happiness, it reminds me that this work is important and I need to keep doing it!

3) what is the motive or the reason you started the social venture you are running now? My interest in social enterprises began when I joined a business leadership group called Enactus while I was attending university. I helped a disabled organization effectively run a cafe, as well as participating, for 2 years, in a business that helped Tanzanian women. That business helped them financially by selling their hand-made baskets. After I came back to Korea, I taught reading to kids from multicultural families by reading books with them. While doing this, I discovered that most of multicultural families couldn’t have their own wedding ceremonies because of financial issues. For brides, coming to a new country and not knowing anybody, I believed that not being able to officially get married and receive warm wishes and joy from their friends and family was devastating to them. I got a strong feeling that they needed official wedding ceremonies to increase their self-esteem and productivity in society. I started throwing free weddings for multicultural families in 2013 and then started my own small wedding company. In order to create a more productive and long-term sustainable business model, I am trying to scale up my company. My goal is to get rid of unnecessary bubbles in the wedding industry by expanding the small wedding market in Korea and to continue providing free wedding services to the poor who live here

서울 도림동에서 나고 자라 20년 넘게 부모님과 함께 살아왔습니다. 집 안보다는 바깥 활동을 좋아하고, 공간에 대한 관심이 많아 자연스레 그 공간을 둘러싼 사람들에게도 관심을 갖게 되었습니다. 반면, 탁상공론에는 흥미가 없습니다. 저는 생각이 정리되면 곧바로 행동에 옮기는, 실행 중심의 사람입니다.

사람들의 이야기를 듣는 것은 제 삶의 방향에 가치와 책임을 더해줍니다. 주변 사람들을 통해 저의 강점을 발견했고, 그들이 필요로 하는 것을 알게 되면서 제 재능이 누군가에게 도움이 될 수 있다는 사실을 깨달았습니다. 지금도 저는 주변 사람들 덕분에 성장하고 있으며, 그 고마움을 늘 마음속에 간직하고 있습니다.

앞선 이야기와 이어집니다. 주변 사람들의 이야기를 들으며 제 재능을 발견하게 되었고, 그 과정에서 지금의 공간주 활동을 시작하게 되었습니다. 사람을 끌어당기는 제 성향이, 사회문제로 떠오르고 있는 ‘빈집’과 연결되었죠. 저는 이 유휴 공간들을 지역의 이야기와 결합해, 홍보가 필요한 신진 작가나 청년들에게 전시나 활동 장소로 제공하고 있습니다. 앞으로도 서울의 구도심 속 빈집을 찾아다니며, 공간을 필요로 하는 사람들과 함께 공간주를 이어가고 싶습니다.

1) Can you briefly introduce yourself (name, birth place, the place you have lived, major interests, and etc.)? I was born in Seoul and now I have been living in Dorim-dong with my parents. I’ve lived in this city over 20 years. I like to go outside and hang out with people more than just stay in one place, so I used to do it all the time. I always have interest about space so I find that people are interest because a space is surround by people usually. I do not like futile theories that may only spread on the table. If I make up my mind to do something, I will go out and begin to do it right away.

2) What is the ‘story’ that influenced(inspired) you the most in your life? It is the story about people around me. Listening to their individual stories, I think they may put me onto the path I should go and support my life. I could realize what I can do well because of that people. There was a time that I was informed about what they needed, then I found that my talent could be helpful for them a lot. These relations help me a lot either, of course, they make me a better person in many ways. I always feel thanks to the people around me. I try to not forget priceless value of them and keep a thankful heart for them.

3) what is the motive or the reason you started the social venture you are running now? Well It’s linked to the previous question. I could find my outstanding talent through sharing the stories of people around me. I think it’s a kind of the ability to attract people and it led me to start the SPACEHOST eventually. I use temporarily empty spaces or houses and make them as places for public purpose. When I find and get some places, I offer them for the young who need a place to promote their project. The lack of chances to access the actural space of young people becomes serious social problem nowadays. It would be better the place where I’ve been trying to build can make good harmony with the story of people. I will continue to look for vacant houses in old urban areas for this. I want to lead the SPACEHOST with those who need places to use and make them better place
